Term 1 - September 2017

We would like to welcome existing parents and children back to Little Hedgehogs and extend a warm welcome to those of you who are joining us this term. We will do our best to ensure that you and your child’s journey at Little Hedgehogs will be a positive one. We hope you all had a great summer and enjoyed the small amount of sunshine we had! We are so excited to be starting a new year and aim to give your child the best possible experiences during the time they are with us, preparing them for their next big transition to school in September 2018. We will be sending out a newsletter at the beginning of every term to keep you informed of the learning we will be covering and important dates for your diaries.

Learning in Term 1

This term, our main focus will be settling into Little Hedgehogs depending on whether your child has just started or is coming back after the summer holidays. We are aware that some children haven’t been to nursery before and for others, they have had a 6 week break so for all of them it will be another challenge in their lives. We will also be learning about the weather and the seasons. Activities will include:

· Discussing the weather on a day to day basis

· Exploring and talking about our environment and the effects the weather has on this.

· Reading and talking about stories based on the weather

· Learning weather songs

· Talking about the seasons and the changes that take place in Autumn.

Ongoing activities will include cooking, painting, arts and crafts, imaginative play, singing and dancing, number and shape activities, listening and sound activities.

Term 4 - February 2017
Term 5's topic was Pirates and Princesses and what a busy term we had! We have loved reading stories about pirates and princesses and playing in our role play areas. We celebrated Red Nose Day and enjoyed the weather turning at little warmer so we could spend more time outside! We took part in a nationwide workout with Joe Wicks, which was great fun but very tiring! We have done lots of cooking and had a fantastic dress up party to celebrate the end of term.

Term 3 January 2017

This term our topics are Winter and Wild Animals. So far we have been exploring ice and its properties thanks to the chilly weather! We have made snowman cupcakes and made snowmen out of cold playdough!

We enjoyed wearing our number outfits for Maths week and have been practicing our counting out and recognising numbers.

We have also had some trips to the library to have story time and some Year 6 students read to us.

We are very excited about upcoming our trip to Wildwood, where we can see some real wild animals!
