Walk for Water 2017
Today (Friday 26th May), year 6 took part in the sponsored event Walk for Water. They were challenged to carry up to 6 litres of water on a 6km walk along the seafront to Long Rock - Tankerton. During the hottest part of our walk, temperatures reached over 20 degrees which gave our children an insight into the lives of children in Africa who have to travel that distance to collect clean water on a daily basis.
We were incredibly proud of the behaviour, attitude and respect shown for this great cause at all times during our walk.
A big thank you to McDonald's in Chestfield for providing our children with Fruit Shoots and fruit packs which were enjoyed at the half way point in Tankerton.
After a well-needed rest in the shade, the children enjoyed a year group picnic outdoors followed by ice pop lollies as an end of term treat.
In the afternoon we carried on with the theme of water where the children worked in groups to create a container that had to hold 500ml of water for 10 seconds using only 15 sheets of paper and 1.5m of selotape.
All the children had a great time taking part in this activity and the winning team (Maddi, Maia, Kira, Frankie, Anushka and Georgia) showed off their creativity creating a container that did not spill a single drop of water!
Well done year 6!
Have a fantastic half term.
