Here is a reminder of the reading options and provision available while your child is unable to take and read books from school and participate in AR quizzing or independent/group reading activities. 

Oxford Owl is a website that has an e-book library with books with varying levels of difficulty. It is available here:

Please message if you are in need of some direction in terms of the most appropriate book levels for your child.

I have also ensured each Y3 class has been set up with an Epic! Books Classroom. This website has an enormous library of e-books and you can filter these using your child's Accelerated Reader book level. If you do not already have the login details for your child please message your child's class teacher who will send these to you.

With the children missing ever increasing classroom based teaching time, I would really encourage them to read as much as is possible over these next few weeks to continue their progress in this crucial area (if it is possible within your family's circumstances). Even 10 minutes a day will make a difference. You can still log reading in the reading record, upload pictures of this and share what the children are reading with class teachers. We are really interested to see what the children are doing and will celebrate their home learning successes with them.

If you have any queries related to reading, please let either myself or your child's class teacher know and we are happy to offer guidance and support while your child is not attending school.

In today's lesson we study the song and the lyrics from 'This is Me' from 'The Greatest Showman'. The song words and the questions are attached. This is your last lesson on the theme of musicals this week before we finish off The Accidental Prime Minister on Thursday and Friday. Enjoy! I can't wait to see your excellent reading learning. In today's lesson we are looking at the words from the song 'It's the Hard Knock Life' from the musical Annie. We start by watching the clip from the film, then look at the text before going through the questions. Good luck and remember there are extra reading comprehensions on the Y3 section of the school website and opportunities to do your own independent reading on Oxford Owl or Epic too.

In today's reading lesson I introduce you to the new reading theme for this week which is...songs from musicals! We are going to look at the lyrics from three songs from famous musicals from the stage/film and then do our usual guided reading comprehension questions once we've read the text. Today is 'When I Grow Up' from Matilda the musical. In your lesson we have a look at a video of the song being performed before reading the words and then I give an overview of the questions. I hope you enjoy your reading lesson today.
25.01.21 - Reading comprehension activity (Miss. Hopkinson's Phonics set)

Each day I will post a reading comprehension activity, which the children in Miss. Hopkinson's phonics set can complete as an alternative to the daily whole class guided reading activity if they wish. This activity will be based around the sounds we have looked at over the past two terms and help to identify those sounds in a variety of words, as well as answering questions about the text.

Todays reading comprehension links nicely with our new sounds this week, as it is all about split digraphs! :)
