In this lesson, you will be finding features in a newspaper report. You can choose to complete the activity by either printing off the worksheet below and colouring the features on it or, you can write the features in your workbook and write 2-3 examples of each one next to them. If there is a feature that would be a whole paragraph or a few sentences long then just the first few words will be fine!
Another Friday, another spelling test! Similar to last last, you need to watch the video and write down this week's spelling words when you hear them being called out. Remember you can pause the video if you need more time and you can rewind it if you would like to hear any spelling words again. Once you have written all the words, mark them once they appear together on the video. Remember to try your best and good luck! Apologies if some of the sentences used for examples seem a bit strange, it's not always easy coming up with them on the spot.
Literacy (03/12/20)
In this lesson, we read our Christmas text - The Christmas Eve Tree. After we have read the book, we remind ourselves how to write speech accurately by picking characters from the book and imagining what they might be saying. Follow my instructions step-by-step to ensure that you have correctly written and punctuated your sentences. Remember, you can imaginative with what the characters are saying :)
If you would prefer to read or listen to the book separately then the link is below:
Try writing out this week's spellings with bubble writing!
Write each of your words in bubble letters and, afterwards, you can colour them in if you would like to :)
To remind you, this week's spelling words are:
payment
enjoyment
agreement
achievement
adjustment
darkness
rudeness
sadness
greatness
kindness
Literacy (02/12/20)
For today's literacy, we start off recapping using speech marks correctly before moving on to making predictions about what might happen in 'The Christmas Eve Tree'. You are aiming to make 3 predictions and explain why you predict it (1 should be about the story and 1 should be about the setting). Hope that all makes sense :)
Spellings 02/12/20
Try writing out this week's spellings with pyramid writing!
For example:
p
pa
pay
paym
payme
paymen
payment
Aim to do at least 5 of the words from your spelling list (though all of them would be amazing!). You can write each one in different colours if you prefer as well :)
To remind you, this week's spelling words are:
payment
enjoyment
agreement
achievement
adjustment
darkness
rudeness
sadness
greatness
kindness
Literacy (All Classes) 30/11/20
Today's lesson is the first lessons of a new writing unit on Newspaper Reports. The book focus will be 'The Christmas Eve Tree' by Delia Huddy. The first lesson of a new writing unit is always what we call; a 'Hook Lesson' (or Experience Lesson). These lessons are often fun and exciting with the aim of inspiring the children and get them engaged in the new topic.
As our new text focus is Christmas-themed, we have set a couple of Christmas tasks today. The first one is creating a craft Christmas tree out of handprints and the second option is writing your letter to Santa. Have a think about what you would like to do and give one of these a go. Enjoy!
Spellings 30/11/20
Welcome to another week of spellings with a new spelling rule. This week's rule is adding the suffixes '-ment' and '-ness' onto the end of root words so, for example, 'pay' becomes 'payment'. Watch the video, discover your other spelling words for the week and come up with some definitions for some of those words.
