Maths

During this term we will be learning about place value. This is a really important part of Maths because it focuses on the ability of children being able to recognise the value of each digit in a number. In Year 4, the expectations would usually be for children to work with numbers from ones to thousands numbers. We will be aiming to do this but will be building this up slowly to ensure that the children understand completely and we cover any gaps that there might be in their learning.

Here are some examples of things we will be doing at school:

Rolling a dice 4 times and making the largest number/smallest number we can with the digits.

Comparing numbers using the signs <, > and =.

Ordering a set of numbers from smallest to largest and vice versa.

Finding 10,100 and 1000 more/less than a number.

Rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000 (if possible).
