Today we are going to begin with some tricky word trucks! These are words that are difficult to sound out as they do not follow the regular phonics rules, so we need to learn how to read them - say them along with me at home! We will be doing lots of work on these words towards the end of term so do not worry too much if you are unsure on any :) The main activity today is a sorting activity, where you need to have 3 columns, labelled: 'k' spelt 'ch', 'sh' spelt 'ch' and 'ay' spelt 'ey'. You will need to sort the words into the correct columns and then I will go through them all at the end.

Today we are looking at the alternative 'ey' sound, which makes an 'ay/ai' sound instead e.g. survey, grey. We will begin with the Cheeky Chimps game on phonics play, which can be found following this link and using the free login - https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/5/cheeky-chimps The main activity today is to create rainbow words! Use as many different colours as you like and be creative to write the words on the list which have the 'ai/ay' sound spelt 'ey'.

Today we are going to continue with the alternative 'ch' sound, which makes the 'sh sound e.g. chef, machine. I will go through some words on the Cheeky Chimps game, which you can access following this link and using the free login if you would like to have your own go at home - https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/5/cheeky-chimps The main activity today is to write 2 x sentences containing the alternative 'ch' sound in them. I have given you a list with some examples to use if you want, or you can think of your own! If you have some spare time after please login to spelling shed and practice the words on there too :)
22/02/21 - Phonics
Today we are going to continue with alternative sounds, by looking at the 'k' sound spelt 'ch'. We will begin by looking at this weeks spelling words and then going straight into our activity. I will be doing an image reveal game, where each image shows a word with the 'k' sound in spelt as 'ch'. You need to try and write down the word before I reveal it! Some of the words are quite tricky so don't worry too much if you aren't sure what it is, I will reveal the answer on the slides and you can copy it into your home learning book or on a piece of paper. Enjoy Year 3!:)
