Reading

  • Work with your child on the 10 reading comprehensions in your home learning packs sent out. These provide a good starting point. I have also attached some downloadable reading comprehensions below if you would like to try some more. (Just scroll down this page)
  • Carry on listening to your child read, it could be books from home or try the app 'Epic' downloadable from the app and google play stores. You will find that this app has a huge range of books for children to read and the good thing about it is that lots of the books have an Accelerated Reader level attached to them enabling you to choose an appropriate book for your child to read.
  • The app 'teach your monster to read' is a fantastic app for children who are consolidating their phonics and perhaps need a little extra support in their reading. It is free and downloadable from the app and google play stores. If your child is in Mrs Bryant/Mrs Sexton's phonics set then this would be a beneficial app for them to practice with.
  • The website www.phonicsplay.co.uk is also super website for children to practice their phonics on. It is currently free for everyone to access. (Username: march20 Password: home) If you need guidance on which phonics phase your child is working on, please e-mail Mrs Sexton or Mrs Bryant who will be able to support you with this.
  • Oxford Owl - Free sign up to a website that provides lots of free e-books tailored to your child's reading level. https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/

These reading comprehensions are called '60 Second Reads' and provide children with quick reading comprehension practice. (The 'Guidance' sheet is at the top for parents to read first)
