Year 4

Welcome to Year 4!

Here's a taster of what we've been up to. Look out for updates as this term looks like it will be even more exciting!

Welcome to the Summer term. How the time has flown as we head into the final third of the year. Over the next six weeks we will be examining how our ancestors lived from the Stone Age through into the Bronze Age. We will be looking at their homes, tools, art and how their lifestyles changed from hunter gatherers to farmers and the reasons for this. As part of our learning we will be visiting Dover Museum for a Bronze Age day, examining artefacts and making pottery items. P.E. will still be taking place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. This term also brings us our Happy, Healthy Hampton day, so as the warmer weather approaches we would appreciate it if the children can have their P.E. kits available at all times.

We have had a few changes and additions to our staffing to better support the children's learning. The current staff in Year 4 are:

Mrs Graves (Class Teacher)

Acorns (4CA)

Mrs Atkinson (Class Teacher)

Mrs Hall (LSA)

Mrs Jeffries (LSA)

Ms Hardley (LSA)

PE Kits
Year 4 PE days are on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, children are expected to bring their PE Kit (House PE shirt, white shorts and trainers or plimsolls) into school on those days and should also bring a tracksuit for colder conditions. Please make sure your child is able to take out any earrings, if they can't please provide tape to cover the earrings up. Also, all children will have to tie up their hair for PE lessons, thank you.

Recorders
In Year 4, all children will have the opportunity to learn to play the recorder and every class will have a 30 minute slot which will be on Wednesdays. Recorders are provided, but if your child would like to bring their own, please make sure it’s named.

Fruit
If the children wish to bring a piece of fruit in for break time then they are welcome to. Alternatively fruit can be purchased from the hall at break time for 30p.

Homework
Maths
This year the children will be encouraged to learn all of their times tables (right up to 12x12) off by heart. Therefore it would be fantastic if you could support your child by helping them to learn them at home. Mymaths homework will be set on occasion by your child’s maths set teacher,

Reading
The children will be given a reading record with a book appropriate to their level. Please listen to your child read regularly and sign their reading record, making note of anything you feel is necessary.

Spellings
Spellings will be given out on Fridays by their spelling teacher and are expected to be learnt for the following Friday. They need to bring in their spelling book every Friday.
