Homework

Here you will find information regarding homework in Year 3:

Reading: In Year 3, we ask that you read as regularly as possible with your child to support their fluency and comprehension and record this in their reading record. Within the first few days of starting Year 3, your child will be allocated either a book band or an Accelerated Reader scheme reading book to bring home and they should inform their class teacher when they need to change their book. If your child is reading book-band reading books, they will be marked with a coloured sticker and they are not required to complete a quiz at the end of the book.

Children who have entered onto Accelerated Reader will have a reading range listed in the front of their reading record. This is a range of levels that your child will be able to choose books from. Children reading Accelerated Reader books complete quizzes upon the completion of a book and are assessed regularly throughout the year. Children have the opportunity to independently read each day at school as well as opportunities to read to adults, as a group or in class during reading lessons. Reading records are monitored regularly and class teachers monitor book levels closely and adjust them accordingly over the course of the year.

Spelling: Year 3 continue to use the Spelling Shed website this year to support spelling. Weekly spellings are provided at the beginning of each term and children will complete a mini assessment each week to see how they are progressing in understanding spelling rules. Spelling Shed login details will be provided by your child’s literacy teacher. Please contact them regarding any Spelling Shed queries via Class Dojo and encourage your child to learn the spelling rules and patterns using the Spelling Shed website.

Maths: Year 3 will be using a website called Times Table Rockstars (TTRS) to support children with the recall of their multiplication facts. Login details will be sent out by your child’s maths teacher and if you have any queries regarding Times Table Rockstars (TTRS) please contact them via Class Dojo to resolve these. Please encourage your child to learn and recall their multiplication (and corresponding division facts) by using the website on a regular basis.
