KS2 Guided Reading

In KS2, all children take part in daily guided reading lessons to develop pupils reading for enjoyment, as well as improving reading stamina and the retrieval of information whether it be literal, inferred or deduced.  Continuation of phonics and decoding at word level is taught where necessary.

Children have opportunities to read aloud to the class teacher and peers as well as listening to the class teacher. Throughout this engagement with the text, children will discuss with their peers and the class teacher what they have read through targeted questioning.

Children are engaged in reading a variety of carefully selected texts, both fiction and non-fiction within a group or a whole class setting.  As a whole school approach, ‘The Literacy Shed’ and the ‘Reading VIPERS’ are continued to be used as a key resource for teaching whole class guided reading. and a reading comprehension folder/book is kept to record their learning in reading with reading grids tracking progress and attainment.
