Year 3
Welcome to Year 3!
At Hampton, Year 3 is an exciting step as children begin their Key Stage 2 journey. It’s a year full of new opportunities, growing independence and plenty of fun along the way.
Our Year 3 Team
We are here to support, encourage, and inspire every child. Together, we help children build confidence, develop their learning skills, and enjoy new challenges.
In Year 3, we have three classes:
Owls Class – taught by Mr Browne, our Year Group Leader, and supported by Miss Newman (LSA).
Kingfishers Class – taught by Mrs Brown and Miss Everton. After her maternity leave, Mrs. Quinn will also return to teach the class. Mrs Kitchener supports them.
Nightingales Class – taught by Miss Thurgood, with support from Mrs Mills and Mrs Jeffries
We are also lucky to have Mrs Tan, our set teacher, who works across the year group to support learning.
Our Year 3 team works closely together, sharing ideas and planning exciting lessons so that all children can enjoy the same great opportunities, no matter which class they are in.
Life in Year 3
In Year 3, children:
take on new responsibilities, learning to be more independent and organised,
build on their reading, writing and maths skills,
explore fascinating topics in history, geography and science,
express themselves through art, music and drama,
stay active in PE and outdoor learning.
We encourage curiosity, creativity and teamwork every day.
Our Routines
In Year 3, children begin to take on more responsibility for their learning and daily routines. We encourage independence while providing the support they need to feel confident and organised.
Reading – Children are encouraged to read at home every day. Sharing stories, reading aloud, or exploring new books helps build confidence and improves fluency.
PE Days – PE lessons take place on Mondays and Tuesdays. On these days, children should come to school in their PE kit, ready to be active and enjoy a variety of sports and physical activities.
Equipment – Children are encouraged to take responsibility for their own belongings, including school bags, water bottles, and reading diaries. This helps them develop organisation skills and independence.
Behaviour and Respect – We work together to create a positive classroom environment where everyone feels safe, respected, and able to learn. Children learn to take responsibility for their actions and show kindness to others.
Highlights of Year 3
Year 3 is full of exciting experiences and opportunities for children to learn, explore, and grow. Some of the things that make this year so special include:
Exciting Trips – Children have the chance to visit local museums, nature reserves, or historical sites that bring their learning to life. These trips help them explore the world beyond the classroom and create wonderful memories.
Creative Projects – Throughout the year, Year 3 children take part in fun and engaging projects that link different subjects together. Whether it’s a science investigation, an art exhibition, or a history project, there is always something to inspire curiosity and creativity.
Special Theme Days – We enjoy themed days throughout the year where children can immerse themselves in topics like cultural celebrations, science week, or storytelling workshops.
New Responsibilities – Year 3 children begin to take on more responsibilities around school. This could be helping in the library, supporting younger children, or taking care of class equipment. These roles help children build confidence, independence, and a sense of pride in their school community.
Celebrating Learning and Effort – We love to recognise children’s achievements, both big and small. From fantastic work in class to showing kindness and teamwork, children are celebrated for their effort, progress, and contributions to the Year 3 community.
